Join a Company Get Transferred, Right? No!

Have you ever thought that in order to get abroad you should join a global company and then ask them to transfer you to one of their international offices?

Let me save you some heart ache.

About 10 years ago, I asked that exact question to a group of HR executives. “If I want to work abroad, how long will it take if I join one of your companies?”

The answer shocked, awed, and horrified me!

The average response was 7-10 years, and they would transfer me ONLY IF there was a *really big* reason the company needed someone like me abroad.

One HR Exec even said, “We rarely send people abroad. There has to be a massive business need, and it has to come at exactly the right time in your career.”

Wait, what?

See, I believed that if I joined a global company, worked really hard, and let them know about my burning desire to work for them internationally, soon enough it would happen!

I mean, that’s how everyone else gets abroad, right?

Wrong.

I have found the exact opposite to be true.

Joining a global company with the main aim to be transferred abroad is not a good strategy. Not only can it take YEARS. But it might never happen.

Why? Well, the boss that told you he’d help you make it happen might leave, be let go, or be transferred to a new department. Foreign offices might open and close. HR might block your visa.

The company could go under new management, be acquired, or sold. And your dreams of working internationally can be kept on the backburner forever.

All things OUT OF YOUR CONTROL and keeping you from your lifelong dream to work abroad!

Once I learned this critical information, I had to ask myself one question — what would happen if I stopped trying to find a company to send me abroad and started focusing on getting abroad on my own?

That was a major turning point!

Within 3 months of using this new strategy I secured a high paying job internationally, my visa was in process, and my flight was booked by the company to move to Dubai!

If you’re looking for a company to transfer you, I promise, there is a much easier way!
